Our latest report with Vodafone, Local to Global, demonstrates the importance of the digital sector to the UK’s economy. The report shows that, whilst there is real opportunity for the UK’s digital businesses to continue grow and flourish post-Covid, around £15bn of the economic output that would have been created by the UK digital sector had the pandemic not hit is at risk of being lost, along with over 37,000 digital sector jobs and nearly 11,000 digital sector businesses.

To mitigate this loss, the Government must continue to ensure that the UK is well placed to take advantage of this technological step-change and create the opportunities both at home and on the international stage for our digital sector to flourish. We are therefore calling for further investment in both digital infrastructure and skills, backed by 5G and full fibre. The regulatory and competitive playing field must also be levelled to encourage the growth of a UK tech titan by removing the potential barriers to UK digital businesses being created and scaled up.
